The Wisconsin Arthritis Program in the Community
On Saturday, March 5, 2011 the Wisconsin Arthritis Program exhibited at “The Gathering : An Interactive Day for the Mind, Body and Soul”. This one day event is tailored to Milwaukee’s African American women. The Wisconsin Arthritis Program, as an exhibitor, shared health resources about different conditions and information about evidence based exercise and disease management workshops available locally. The Wisconsin Arthritis Program is dedicated to arthritis awareness and education. As there are over 100 types of arthritis, community events such as this are excellent venues to educate the public, answer questions and provide resources. African Americans with arthritis suffer a disparate burden in relation to self-reported quality of life and activity limitations. It was essential to participate in this unique community experience.
